
Farm Enhancement Grants
Farming Bovina is pleased to announce the availability of Farm Enhancement Grants, intended to support farmers
with agricultural projects in and around the Town of Bovina, New York.
These grants are made possible by funds raised at Bovina Farm Day, an agricultural festival now in its 16th year held annually on the Sunday before Labor Day. This new grant program is intended to make possible distinct farm-based projects that improve the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of local farmers actively engaged in the production of crops, livestock, dairy, honey, maple, fruit, trees, and other agricultural products.
Types of projects eligible for support include (but are not limited to):
· Replacing the roof of a barn or shed
· Experimenting with a new breed of livestock or type of crop
· Bringing a fallow pasture back into production
· Purchasing a tractor
· Building a new livestock paddock
· Engaging an outside professional to develop a planfor producing a value-added product
Grant dollars will be awarded for direct PROJECT expenses only and not general farm operating costs like feed,
fuel, and fertilizer.GRANT DETAILS
Grant Range: $1,000 - $2,500Awards: Up to three grantswill be awarded depending on the application pool
Application Deadline: August 1, 2026
Matching Requirements:Grant recipients must contribute 10% of their own dollars to the total project
costEligible Expenses: Equipment, contractor fees, materials, supplies, tools, etc.
Reimbursement Timing: Expenses must be paid by the farmer after August 15, 2026 to be eligible for
grant reimbursement or matching requirementsGrant Disbursement: 1/3 of total upon award of grant and the balance upon completion of the project (documented
by receipts).ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a grant, a farm must be:
*Located within an approximate 10-mile radius of the hamletof Bovina Center (Priority will be given to farms located in the Town of Bovina).
*Qualify for an Agricultural Assessment under New York StateAgricultural Districts Law by meeting minimum acreage or sales thresholds: 7 acres or more of land actively used for farming, OR, if less than 7 acres, generate at least $50,000 in annual gross sales of agricultural products (averaged over 2 years).
*Be a for-profit farming business owned by a private farmeror family
Grant decisions will be made by acommittee comprised of Farming Bovina board members, farmers, and outside
professionals in the agriculture field.Applications will be evaluated based upon:
*The feasibility of the project*Its potential impact on the future growth, diversification,and stability of the farm
*Its potential for supporting good land stewardship
*Its potential to serve as a model for neighboring farms
*The financial and/or technical need of the farmer
*Priority will be given to agriculture-focused projects, but farm-based agritourism projects such as farm stands or farm stays will be also considered, as long as they are associated with a qualifying farm

Applications can be also be mailed to Farming Bovina, PO BOX 117, Bovina Center, NY 13740 with a post mark no later than August 1, 2026.
Feel free to attach supporting documents, including photos, estimates, plans, etc. Grant awards will be announced by August 15, 2026.
